So it turns out dueling pianos is well and truly a thing in Australia (how did I not know that?!), and I was lucky to have been a small part of it, playing two shows at The Gatsby in Brisbane last month. Huge shoutout to Kylie Fisher for booking me!
I wasn't sure how Australian audiences would respond to the concept of singalong, but holy cow! Everyone sang nearly every song at the top of their collective lungs! And I have to admit I was a little worried that the requests would be pretty Aussie-specific, and while there were a few songs I didn't recognize, by and large, most of what folks were wanting to hear was pretty darn similar to audiences in the States. I even busted out Zac Brown's "Chicken Fried" at one point.
What was truly special though, was the fact that so many friends and family were able to come out and see me perform. I don't get to do too many shows in Australia these days, so it was humbling to see old friends from high school, ex Ten Tenors, and even my grade 9 science teacher and grade 3 music teacher!
Big thanks to all who came along, as well as the awesome staff at The Gatsby, and here's to hopefully many more!
